The MPIP Melanoma Research Abstract
Database Filter
Extracting information of immediate
use to patients from the over 15,000 abstracts on all aspects of melanoma research
which are available from the National Medical Library (PubMed) was up until now
a daunting task. Many of the abstracts returned by doing a simple search of the
PubMed database would be reports of laboratory research of no immediate practical
value to patients. Only about 1 in 10 abstracts contain information that patients
and physicians need to know to help make treatment decisions. In order to narrow
the amount of material returned, the MPIP has designed a "front-end" to the PubMed
database search engine that tells it to only return the information that is pertinent
to patients. This filter can be turned of by checking the "Disable Filter"
checkbox.
