- Congenital pigmented naevus
- A mole present at birth is called a congenital pigmented naevus. One in a hundred babies have a congenital
pigmented naevus of variable size from a few millimetres in diameter to covering half the baby's skin. The very large
ones have a slight risk of becoming cancerous in later life, so any change in a congenital pigmented naevus should be
reviewed by your doctor.
- Congenital Nevus
- Most dermatologists believe that moles such as this that appear at birth have a
greater predisposition to developing into a malignant melanoma. These types of
lessons should be observed closely, or in some instances removed completely.
- Dysplastic Nevus
- A Dysplastic Nevus is an atypical Nevus. Notice the color is not
consistant throughout this Nevus. Also, this Nevus has no distinct edges
and seems to fade into the skin.
